Introduction

This section is a continuation from Cawthorne Origins and follows the Fretwell family through the next four generations, ending around the end of the 19th century. Here we see the majority of the Fretwells moving away from their rural environment, to the bustling and burgeoning milieu of the city of Leeds. Two of the sons move even further afield - one to America and one to India, and it is also with these later Fretwells that the first family ties with Germany are established.

While much of the information has been verified, a reading of the following reveals numerous gaps to be plugged, and a number of questions yet to be answered. Any information that might assist in completing the picture will be gratefully received. I am only an email away!
